Google Quick Share SDK Brings In-App File Sharing to Android and iOS
Google will launch a Quick Share SDK for Android and iOS apps in the first half of 2027. With this SDK, developers can embed peer-to-peer file sharing and Tap to Share directly inside their apps.
The news came out of the Android Dev Summit that Google recently held. Besides sharing a few details about Android 18, Google announced this SDK as a way to make Quick Share more convenient than it is today.
What Changes with the Quick Share SDK
Quick Share is known as a fast and fairly simple way to send files between two devices. Right now, though, you still have to bring up the share sheet and open the full-screen Quick Share experience.
The new SDK lets you skip that. You'll be able to share files without bringing up the share sheet or launching the full-screen Quick Share experience, because the feature lives inside the app you're already using.
- Platforms: Android and iOS apps
- Features: in-app peer-to-peer file sharing and Tap to Share
- Release timing: first half of 2027
What It Means for Developers and Businesses
If you build apps, this SDK is worth keeping an eye on. iOS support also means Quick Share-style file sharing could show up in cross-platform apps. Other technical details haven't been shared yet, so we'll wait for more information from Google closer to launch.
